When you walk into your house or business and see that the place is flooded with water, it's natural to be frightened, perplexed, and unsure where to begin. SERVPRO of Central Glendale's most helpful suggestion for you is to stay calm and contact us right away. Water damage has occurred. Here are a few things to consider following this urgent phone call.
Things to Know When Water Damage Happens
- Shut off the water if possible. If you know where your main water valve is located and can safely access it, shut the water off to your home or business. This will greatly reduce the amount of water damage caused by the flooding.
- If your entire home is flooded, it can mean real danger and should be avoided. Instead, shut the water off to the house or office. Remember, water and electricity do not mix.
- When picking up cardboard boxes, coats and rugs, be careful when lifting them. The water adds more weight and will make them extra heavy.
- While waiting for SERVPRO of Central Glendale to get there (within an hour), try removing some moisture with towels, brooms or squeegees. The longer the water settles, the more damage it can cause
Prepare to Speak to Your Insurance Company
